三百零五年前…

他是波士頓一肥皂製造商的第十五個孩子，絕頂聰明，曾為政治家、作家、科學家與發明家：Benjamin Franklin。他不僅發明了避雷針、為美國獨立宣言的撰寫人之一，而且還是第一位說出經典格言「時間就是金錢」（time is money）的人。他也在其著作 The Way to Wealth 提及「早睡早起使人健康、富裕與聰慧。」用原文當然更傳神："Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise."

三百零五年前的今天，Benjamin Franklin 誕生。

八十年前…

只要聽到他的聲音，就能了解何謂道地的「男低音」：James Earl Jones。他是 CNN 之聲，同時也為 Darth Vader 配音。George Lukas 曾坦承，當他安排 David Prowse 的角色時，他心裡已有譜：「他就是我的 Darth Vader。」身材高大，但是美中不足的是聲音似男高音並帶有蘇格蘭口音，因此必須借助 James Earl Jones 的嗓音。初始代價為七千美金，合作過程愉快，之後 George Lukas 在 Star Wars 的續集給他多添了一些報酬。年幼時的 James 有口吃的毛病，他的高中老師也因此要求他每日在全班面前朗誦詩詞。他參與演出的第一部電影是 Kubrick 的 Dr. Strangelove，之後在電影 Patriot Games 中飾演美國中央情報局局長，並於 The Man 中扮演電影史上第一位黑人總統。他朗讀 Edgar Allan Poe 的詩 The Raven 亦令人印象深刻：

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he; not an instant stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door.

小孩亦喜愛他的聲音，畢竟他於 Lion King 中詮釋父親的聲音：

Look at the stars, the great kings of the past look down on us from those stars.
